Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)

Horsetail is a fibrous plant that is very high in the mineral silica. It is used to strengthen connective tissue, including the upper respiratory tract, and as a diuretic. It can also be used to improve the health of hair, skin and nails, to improve nerve strength and reduce nervousness and to help with removal of toxins.

Note: because it is so fibrous, dried horsetail must be boiled in a covered vessel for 15-20 minutes before use, in order to release the silica.
